Meta and Facebook’s approaches to memorialisation
Facebook is the world’s most popular and widely used social media platform. It has 3.06 billion monthly active users meaning that 37% of the world’s population uses Facebook at least once per month (September 2024). Meta (Facebook’s parent organisation) also own’s Instagram with 2.35 billion monthly users (September 2024).
In this presentation, Emilar will highlight the work that has taken place to help educate and help their community to make plans in advance and memorialisation. She will discuss the policies behind relevant features and how their users are able to use tools such as Facebook’s ‘Legacy Contact’ and ‘Tributes’ to both make plans and remember their loved ones. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of this area and know how to make plans for their own Facebook and Instagram accounts. This knowledge can then also be shared with patients and the communities you serve.
